Polypropylene

Polypropylene rope is lightweight, strong and floats on water — a versatile rope that can take a beating. Our range includes twisted rope (the classic orange, sold on a roll) as well as braided rope in white and mixed colours, with diameters from 4 to 16 mm and lengths from 20 to 500 metres. Resistant to moisture, chemicals and UV light, it's an excellent choice for the garden, boating, camping or jobs around the house.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer formed by the polymerization of propylene (a hydrocarbon). These granules are melted through extrusion, pressed through a sheet, and formed into filaments.

With multifilament, the mass is essentially forced through a fine showerhead, resulting in fine threads. With split film, a film is extruded. This film is then split or cut into strips, stretched, heated, fibrillated, and so on, resulting in a net structure.

The fibers are then processed into twisted or braided rope.

Properties

  • Synthetic rope, non-biodegradable
  • Strong and light rope
  • Rather stiff rope, not so flexible
  • Stay afloat

  • High breaking strength
  • Sensitive to wear
  • Moderate stretch
  • Does not absorb moisture, does not rot and floats (density 0.91 g/cm³)
  • Least UV resistant synthetic rope, loses strength after exposure to UV (unless stabilized, which is standard with us)
  • Heat resistant: melts from 165°C
  • Resistant to acids and bases
  • Various colors, mainly known as orange twisted rope or white packing rope
