Cotton

Cotton is sown and requires high heat and moderate water or irrigation from the outset. Plantations can be found in China, India, the United States, Brazil, Australia, Turkey, and Greece, among other places.

The cotton plant produces flowers quite quickly after sowing. These flowers ripen and release seeds. These seeds develop into white hairs, or cotton bolls. The cotton bolls are picked from the plant and, as raw fibers, form the basis for the final cotton fiber. The raw fibers are combed (i.e., laid in the same direction), and after removing waste, the fibers can be drawn out into thread, the basis for cotton rope.
