From January 1, 2023, we will deliver our rope and chain accessories packaged in 100% recycled and recyclable PE bags . Inspired by our corporate vision of "local production and sustainability," we're constantly looking for improvements. For example, we're moving away from our current blister packaging for rope and chain accessories. This allows us to offer our customers a locally produced, more sustainable product.
Locally produced, more sustainable product
Corbeo has been working on a re-shoring strategy for several years, gradually expanding local production. Rope and chain accessories are now purchased in bulk and Machine-packed in Zele . By moving the packaging activity to Belgium, we are once again becoming less dependent on import flows and can respond more flexibly to market developments. Moreover, this change is also based on a significant sustainability impact:
- CO2 reduction : Sourcing accessories in bulk allows for significantly more items to fit into a single shipment. This reduces the number of container shipments by 70% and saves 3,925 kg of CO2 . per year. Moreover, packaged items in a bag take up to six times less space than blister packs. This also allows for more compact packaging for distribution to retail outlets, optimizing transport and saving CO2 .
- Production via solar panels : the packaging activity takes place in a BEN (nearly energy neutral) building in Belgium.
- Greatly improved recyclability by avoiding multiple packaging components: hard plastic, cardboard, tag, and staples have been replaced by a single waste stream, namely a recyclable soft monoplastic.
Rope and chain accessories in the shop
We have many setups on the Belgian market under our Ledent brand Rope and chain accessories in DIY stores . Replacing blister packs with 100% recyclable PE bags will give these stores a more sustainable image. The uniform product information on both the front and back supports sales. Various color codes visually indicate the difference in material: galvanized or stainless steel. Moreover, the bags take up less volume, allowing more bags to fit on a hook.
